Our two grandchildren LOVE raw veggies and fruits! We are glad they do. Sometimes at the dinner table we heard this (rather strange, for an American parent) admonition: "No, you must eat two more bites of meat before you get any more raw veggies!" Funny! So... for grandson Andrew's 5th birthday (18 April 2017), he was having a train theme. His mom had done some looking on the Internet and presented me (Andrew and Abigail's "Ouma") with the challenge of making a veggie train and a fruit train to go with his birthday cake and the rest of the cookout meal. It was fun! So this time, I am just presenting you with pictures of what was done, and you can then let your imagination go wild from there, with ideas of your own for your own fruit or veggie train. Ryan and Rachel (our son and daughter-in-law) made an onion dip and hummus to go with the veggies. They also made Andrew's birthday cake which included the train track made out of licorice and pieces of chocolate bar (like a Kit-Kat!). Oupa got into the action by making the tracks for the veggie and fruit trains to sit on -- he used a board, popsicle sticks, and thin black tape. And a great time was had by all!
Andrew loves Thomas the Tank Engine so not long before his birthday he spent a father and son day at the Illinois Railway Museum near Chicago, where he got to "meet" Thomas in person!
